The brewery say:
According to legend, the eisbock owes its development to a lucky coincidence. According to this, around 1900, a brewery apprentice forgot to carry the barrels filled with bock beer into the cellar on a harsh winter day. The barrels that were then snowed over were only rediscovered when the snow melted. However, after a good reprimand from the teacher, it turned out that the bock beer was not damaged - on the contrary. Inside the ruptured barrels was found a liquid bock beer extract with a strong taste and high alcohol content. The solution to the puzzle: Since water freezes faster than alcohol, a concentrated beer was created with a strong taste and high alcohol content. Over time, this coincidence became a tradition. Today we produce this rare beer using a modern brewing and freezing process. A little less spectacular than before, but the incomparable taste remains. The outstanding quality and taste has now been confirmed by an international expert commission consisting of international brewers, industry experts and journalists with a silver medal at the “World Beer Award 2022”. In addition, this beer specialty was also awarded platinum in the “Wood Barrel Matured Beers – Eisbock” category at the “Meiningers International Craft Beer Award 2016”. Since 2019, the Kulmbacher Eisbock has also been included in the “culinary map” of the Nuremberg metropolitan region and can now call itself “Our Originals”. With so many awards, your mouth is watering. A little tip: Our Eisbock can be found in well-stocked beverage stores with an integrated specialty department or in some selected catering establishments.
